Welcome
The election of officers for the new year is not far off.  If you want to run for an office, you better start your campaigning soon.  Due to Cliff Ledyard's illness we will have to elect a new Chaplain. Cliff has been our Chaplain for the last 22 years and has served our veterans for all those years.  Thank you, Cliff, for a job well done.

For the past month the weather has seemed more like Spring than Winter.  Maybe that's why so many of us have been ill.  Seems like a lot of flu and pneumonia are being passed around.  I wish everyone good health in the coming months.

We are in the process of updating all the rest rooms.  The show cases are being changed so,  if you have any military material you would like to have displayed, see me or the Canteen committee.

Golfers, don't forget the meeting Mar 10th at the Post, if you want to join the league.

Comrades, we are losing a lot of members due to death.  Please help me and our Post by talking anyone that is eligible into joining.  Tell prospects all about the benefits available by joining the VFW.
John F Polgar, Cmdr

BOWLING
The annual Department Bowling Tournament will be held March 23-24, April 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21 in Sandusky.  Entry fees and forms must be in by Feb 26, 2002.  There's still time to sign up.

GOLF
For those who may be interested. the VFW Department Golf Tournament will be held July 20 and 21 in Akron, OH.  Entry fees and forms must be in by July 1st. These forms will be available in the VFW Ohio News and in the packets received by the Post.  These will be posted in the Canteen game room when received.

MEMBERSHIP
Since last month we have increased out total membership by (3) to 1515.  This is 96.06% of our goal of 1577 in 2001.  Almost all new members joining the Post are taking advantage of the 50% savings in the cost of a Life Membership.  Our current members are not working hard enough to recruit new members into the VFW.  If everyone would only sign up one new member or re-instatement, we would double the size of the Post.  We need them. Why not work at it?????

Politics is perhaps the only profession for which no preparation is thought necessary.
Government in the U.S. today is a senior partner in every business in the country.
FREE PHONE CARDS

Keeping in touch means so much.  If you know of a hospitalized veteran or military family, give them the Operation Uplink phone number, 1-800-479-5228.  The National VFW will work to send them a free calling card.  Also, you can make a donation to this worthy  program by sending a check to VFW National Hdq,  406 W 34th St, Kansas City, MO 64111, earmarked for UPLINK.

This is one of  the best ways of  serving America's heroes,  those of the past, and those now on active duty in the armed forces.  Please help,  a call home is the next best thing to being there.

POW/MIA DINNER
VFW District 9 is having its annual POW/MIA dinner program on March 16.  Hosting this year's event is Post 1662, Amherst.  Tickets are available at $8.00 per person.  All net proceeds are donated to the OHIO League of FAMILIES to help defray the cost of current investigations into the whereabouts of those still missing and unaccounted from all wars.

Ladies Auxiliary News
Wilma Zech -President

Hello to all my Auxiliary sisters.  We wish to thank the Commander for the beautiful Boxes of Chocolates that he raffled off for Valentines Day.  Thanks!!   March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb.  Seems as though we have been through March already.  I recall that we have had some of our biggest snows in March. .  Hope you have all managed to stay well, and are letting us know if you are not.  We had one member fall on Friday and not found until Sunday. Doris Atkins is doing OK, but let us keep calling our friends daily if no answer, go visit

We will be hosting the District 9 meeting at 1079 on Sunday the third of March.  9AM is registration, and 10AM is the meeting.  Hope some of you can make it. Donuts and coffee served before meeting. Lunch will be at North Ridgeville Post.   We also will have guests at our next meeting on the 5th of March.  New London sisters will be visiting. We will be taking in members, and draping the charter for our deceased members.

Membership UPAID list is now posted in the canteen.  If you are on this list, you are not a member in good standing, and you cannot sign the book, and you cannot order at the bar because you have been removed from the roster. Check this list Send your $18 to Cathy, or pay at the canteen.

Linda tells me the Buddy Poppy Pals are ordered.  The pals are cute penguins this year.

Elections are coming up next month - Be sure to look over the officers and support them when you elect them. Please come to the meetings.  We now get a free drink before the meeting, and our usual 50/50, and chance for a life membership at National Children's home.

Junior Unit is being hosted by Elyria 1079, in April, and we can use help with the registration, Cancer Raffle items, Hospitality, and stuffing ditty bags for them.  A job done by one is no fun.  Volunteer!

God Bless all who are ill, or caring for a loved one who is ill.  If you have lost a loved one, please know our prayers are with you.  Celebrating a special day?? Have a good one. Wilma Zech ,President
