Welcome
Please remember, we do have guards on the doors.  So please treat them with respect.  They are only doing their job.

Plan to be at the Post meeting in April as this is when we nominate and vote on Post Officers.  If you don't attend, don't complain.

Also, please contact the Post if a member is sick, hospitalized, or deceased.  We want to know.

Plan to attend the many Post activities.  The VFW Golf League starts to play April 28th.  Join us.  Also, there is a Senior League that plays, but they are not a VFW League; just a lot of them are members of Post 1079.

Please check the calendar for specific dates.  Post meets 1st & 3rd Mondays of the month at 8 p.m.

VFW Lorain County Council meets in Post rotation 2nd Tuesday at 8 p.m.  Elyria Council of Veterans meets at 7 p.m. on the 3rd Wednesday rotating between the VFW, American Legion, and the AMVETS.

The Brecksville Hospital Treat van leaves at 6 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  Join us.

Don't forget the Boy Scout Spaghetti Dinner here at the Post on April 4th from 5 'til 7 p.m.

Veterans Health Fair
The Lorain County Veterans Service Office will conduct a Health Fair forum in Midway Mall on Saturday, April 21, 2001 from 10 a.m. 'til 4 p.m.

If anyone has concerns or questions regarding Benefits related to the VA Health System, make plans now to attend.  This is one way to keep up to date with the ever-changing regulations.

Loyalty Day
A day set aside to confirm allegiance to our Flag and Country.  Celebrated each year to counteract the Communist holiday of May Day, May 1st.  The cold war may be over, but the communistic doctrine still resides in many countries throughout the world. See parade info in Auxiliary news.

Testimonial Dinner
Honoring District 9 Cmdr Bill Ohlemacher will be held Saturday evening, Apr 28th. At Post 2529, Sandusky.  Happy hour from 6 to 7 p.m.

National Home News
If you haven't made your Charity Donation yet this month, please consider sending a check to the VFW Children's Home, earmarked for the Water Treatment Facility.  This work is now in progress and is quite a few thousand dollars short on funds.  Mail to VFW National Home, 3573 Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 44827, Larry Krugman, Trustee.

Election of Officers
April marks the coming of spring. It also means that the Auxiliary will be holding Election of Officers on April 3rd.

Please try to attend this 8 p.m. meeting.  We will be electing Auxiliary officers for the ensuing year.  It is very important that you choose your officers.  We are looking forward to seeing a lot of our sisters.

Membership
The Auxiliary still needs a few dues paid to make 100%.  Your dues are important to the auxiliary as support to many projects, such as purchasing flags for scout troops and schools.  If you know of a sister who has not yet paid her dues, ask her to send them in today.  The dues are $18.00 and make checks payable to "Ladies Auxiliary to VFW 1079."  A BIG THANK YOU goes out to all those who have already paid their dues and supported our activities.

Buddy Poppy Drive
Mark your calendar for May 2nd - 5th.  Post Chairman, Bob Burdick, has been working very hard to secure locations for the drive.  Members are needed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  You don't need to volunteer the entire 7 hours; just a couple of hours each day would sure help our rehabilitation program.  The money collected on our Buddy Poppy Drive is used to purchase funeral flowers, cards and flowers for sick members, phone calling cards for active military personnel and our monthly trip to Brecksville Veterans Hospital where our members play Bingo with the residents and serve snacks.  Your support of this project is IMPORTANT.

Loyalty Day
Loyalty Day will be celebrated by Post 1079 on Friday, Apr 27th. with a tureen in the Post Hall.  The Youth Essay winner will be honored at this time as well as the Athletes of the Year.  District 9 will celebrate with a parade and luncheon in Sandusky on Sunday, Apr 29th.  The parade is at 1p.m. and will be taking the route of Water Street (near the lake) and will be ending up at Veterans Park.  The luncheon will be at the VFW Post on Perkins Ave after the parade and program.  Come on out and show your loyalty to the United States.
Remember:
Auxiliary meetings are the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 8 p.m.  Please try to attend.

To those that are ill, we wish a Speedy Recovery.  If you have lost a loved one, we extend our Deepest Sympathy.
