Welcome
We are losing comrades every month.  The rifle squad Honor Guard seems to be working overtime.  I wish to thank them at this time for being present when called to perform this service.  Thank you, one and all, for a job well done.

Comrades, although we are still the largest Post in the State of Ohio, if everyone would just recruit one new member, our Post membership would double.  Let's try to compensate for those who are passing on.

Election of Officers is on the agenda for the April meetings.  Nominations will be made on April 1st and will continue on April 15th followed by the election.  If you are interested in running for an office, now is the time get active.  Make sure you have your membership card out to show at the entrance to the meeting room on election night.  No CARD, No participation.

Elective offices are Commander, Sr Vice Commander, Jr Vice Commander, Quartermaster, Judge Advocate, Chaplain, Surgeon and the 3 Year Trustee.  Officers will be installed at a special joint function sometime between the period of April 27th to June 6th, and assume their duties after the Dept of Ohio officers for the year 2002-03 are installed at the State Convention.

The success or failure of a Post rides with the wise selection of officers who are devoted to their duties and welfare of fellow members and their families.  May God bless each and every one of you. John F. Polgar, Commander

POW/MIA UPDATES
A 10 man team from the Army's Central Identification Laboratory will deploy to Kwajalein Island located in the Marshall Islands to recover the remains of Americans executed by the Imperial Japanese Navy in October of 1942.  These Marines were captured on Makin Island after the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion's raid of August 1942.  CILHI recovered and identified the other 19 Makin Raiders from 1999 to 2001.  In the summer of 2001, 6 were sent home for burial and 13 were buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Ladies Auxiliary News
Wilma Zech -President
We hope you all had a joyous Easter with your family, church and friends.  Good old jelly beans, yellow chicks, and CHOCOLATE!! So much for fitting into that bathing suit in July!! Happy Exercising!

At our last meeting we read a letter of resignation from Senior Vice President Linda Husk.  She will not be going on as your president.  Nor will I.  Elections are the 2nd of April. Ruth Conrad is your Jr. Vice, President and she is not sure she wants to move up to President.  Ruby Burdick has put her hat in the ring for Treasurer. Not sure what the other officers are doing.  You need to get to this meeting, and support the candidate of your choice.  THIS IS YOUR AUXILIARY Be There!!! APRIL 2ND 8 pm
We have heard from our adopted unit - They were in Hawaii, moved to Germany, and now are in Bosnia. Ruth Conrad, and Lorraine made them cookies and I got them phone cards, and sent them. We would like to SEND COOKIES monthly.  Willing to bake a dozen or so cookies? Call Ruth or me.

Funeral Dinners have been suggested, for the Auxiliary to provide, by the VFW 1079 officers. We now furnish plates, napkins, plastic ware, cups and Coffee. Somehow the VFW 1079 officers were not aware of this, and were following rules from the 80's. We changed that back in the 90's. The rules were never revised.  We need to vote on this next meeting. Are you willing to come, cook, and serve??? Or just supply the paper goods & coffee? See you at the April 2nd meeting for the discussion on this.

Last meeting we draped the charter for our sisters we lost.  We will do this again in May. We also announced we are 100% participated in our programs. THANK YOU!  I know that all 970 of you did something. Now we must report it. Call the chairman, or me, and REPORT IT!

Please note that Linda Husk, our own member, is the District President and we will be honoring her on the 27th of this month.  We hope you will show her how much we appreciate all she has done for the District.  She will be going on to a state chairmanship. We love you Linda and are proud of you!!

1079 ladies auxiliary will host VFW JUNIOR UNIT CONFERENCE. Ages 5-15 - 200 of them will do floor work, and get awards for their programs. We will host a catered dinner April 13th, Saturday night, 5:30-7PM and the meeting on Sunday the 14th at 9:30. I NEED HELP WITH REGISTRATION, CANCER RAFFLE TABLE.

We also need help with packing a good lunch for them to take home.  Home made cookies, Chocolate chip - 20 dozen. Call me..

May God Bless all who are ill, or lost a loved one. Those who are housebound please know. We would call, or visit, if we knew.  Celebrate those anniversaries and Birthdays, and enjoy - God Bless America and God Bless all of you.  Wilma Zech ,President
