Welcome
Well, the election of officers for the year 2001/2002 is now history. They will take over their duties after the installation of the State officers on July 1st. Support those you have voted in to run the Post. Remember, it takes the combined effort of all the members to make this organization a success.
The month of May is always a busy month, so check the calendar for events and happenings. The Post is here for your enjoyment and participation. And, if you know of anyone eligible for membership, please sign them up. If every comrade would make this his goal for the year, we would double the membership and account for the loss of the deceased. Cmdr Blaine

Membership
If you have read your Department Newspaper, you've noticed that District 9, comprised of 33 Posts including Post 1079, is at the lowest end of the totem pole in membership rating. It looks like everyone is laying down on the job concerning the recruiting of new members and trying to re-instate those that have left the fold. Let's make an effort during the next two months to help alleviate this shortfall and get back on top.
Memorial Day 2001
Make your plans now to attend the Sunday evening service at the Legion Hall scheduled for 7:00 PM.
The annual Memorial Day Parade will form at Court & 2nd St at 9:00 AM. Step off at 10:00 AM along the usual route to Broad, to Washington Ave, to Harrison and ending in Ridgelawn Cemetery for the service at 11:00 AM; a Solemn Tribute to those who gave their all for FREEDOM.

Buddy Poppy Drive
May 2nd thru May 5th is our Buddy Poppy Drive. We need Volunteers to sign up to take Donations for this very important drive. Bob Burdick, the Post Chairman, and Linda Husk, our Auxiliary Chair- man, have been working hard to make this drive a big success. Help them to help our Veterans by donating a few hours of your time.
Membership
We still need a few members to pay their dues for this year. If you are one of these who have not paid your $18.00 for the year, do so now. I'm sure that you don't want to loose your Post privileges and your Cancer Insurance. Without a new card, you can't get in.
The Auxiliary would like to take this time to thank all the members and non-members for their cards for the Veterans and the Nursing Homes, and all the soup labels for our Children at the National Home.
There will be a Donor's Box in the Canteen for items for the Genis House until May 15th. Some of the items needed are Kleenex, Stockings, Powders, Hand Lotions, Combs, Tooth Brushes and Paste, Soaps, Etc.
Remember, our meetings are the on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 8:00 PM. Try to join us. You can learn a lot of what we do to help our Veterans who have done so much to keep us free.
Up-coming Event: Plan to attend our Mother-Daughter Banquet June 5th. This will be a Tureen Dinner at 6:00 PM. There will be a Musical Entertainment Program. Tickets can be purchased from Cathy Eckhart in the Canteen on Wed. nights during the month of May.
To those that are ill, we wish a Speedy Recovery. If you have lost a loved one, we extend our Deepest Sympathy.
