I am honored by your vote of confidence in re-electing me as your Commander. Congratulations to my officers who will serve again with me.
I wish to congratulate Magdeline Elek & all the Auxiliary officers elected. It was a privilege & honor working together this past year.
Installation of Officer will be held on Friday, May 14th at 5:00 PM. Plan to attend.
The Korean War Veterans are now holding their meetings here at the Post on the 2nd Monday of each month. All Korean Vets are urged to join us. We welcome new members.
On May 1st District 9 will hold a Testimonial Dinner honoring Cmdr Tony Apicella & President Ruth Conrad at Post 3343, Clyde, OH. Reservations are required and the cost is $20 per person. Post 1079 will be represented by comrads Selavko & Zech.
May 6th thru May 8th is our Buddy Poppy Drive. Marshall Williams, Poppy Chrmn, will have a sign-up sheet in the Canteen where you can pick the store & time you want to work. Please help make this drive a big success by volunteering a little of your time.
The Honor Guard will represent the Post in the Memorial Day Parade on May 31. Not many of us are able to march anymore, so please come and join us in the march.
Parade will form at 2nd & Court St and kick off at 10:AM following the usual route to Ridgelawn cemetery where ceremonies will take place at approximately 11;00 AM.
A Lorain County Fair Board meeting will be held at the Post on May 13th at 7:00 PM. Please attend.
On May 15th, Lear Romec will hold their 100th Anniversary Picnic in the Pavilion. Please exercise care in driving in and out of the parking lot. There will be youngsters around.
On may 29th the American Legion will honor our local WWII Veterans with a “Continental Breakfast”. Our Post Auxiliary will provide a Soup & Sandwich luncheon here at the Post. During the luncheon we will be able to view the dedication ceremonies in Washington D. C. on a large TV screen donated by “Stewarts”. A flyer is on the board, so check it for time.
The VFW 9th District will meet June 6th at 10:00 AM at Post 3343, Clyde, OH. Registration begins at 9:00 AM.
June begins our summer meeting schedule of one meeting per month thru Sept. See calendar.
Some of the officers will be attending the State Convention in Dayton from June 23 to 27. It should be noted that the expense will not come from the Post general fund.

Canteen News
I hope all of our members had a wonderful Easter. I know mine was good.
We have a few new changes to the Canteen this month. First, we are now having dinners on Wed. evenings for our members and their guests. We will be serving from 5:30 –7:00 PM. Check our calendar for our monthly menu.
We are now serving lunches Mondays thru Saturdays. Please come out and join us. Have it here or order it to go. Menu’s are around the bar and tables informing you of the kitchen hours. Please do not hesitate to order food during our designated kitchen hours. The weekly specials are on our board.
On June 11th we are having a Parrot Head Party. Have you ever been to one? You need to get out all your island shirts and shorts and join us for a night of Tropical Treats; frozen drinks, hoola-hoop contests, best island ourfit and limbo contest. This will be a great party. Please come out and have some fun!

Sisters of the Auxiliary
The Corned Beef Dinner was a huge success; it was beyond our expectations. A huge “Thank You” to all our workers, both men & women, who worked so very hard. You did a fantastic job! We couldn’t have done it without you. I would like to apologize to those we had to turn away when we ran out of food. We served 143 people. We’ll plan on 200 next year.
Tuesday, May 4th, will be our last Noon meeting until October, Lunch at 12:00—Meeting at 12:30. After the meeting we will be cutting out bibs. Bring your scissors, if you can stay and help. From June thru September we will return to one meeting a month, on the 3rd Tuesday.
Thursday, May 6th, at 9:00 AM, we will be sewing bibs for the Ohio Veterans Home, with lunch afterward. Help, if you can.
Tuesday, May 11th, at 6:00 PM will be the Mother Daughter Tureen. The meat will be furnished. Bring a salad, covered dish, or dessert. There’ll be $1.00 charge per person and the sign up sheet will be in the Canteen. The program at 7:00 will be the Soundecision, singing show tunes. Bring your daughters and granddaughters for a lovely evening.
May 12th, at 7:00 will be our final Memorial Day Float meeting. We are quite excited about our float. Come help, if you can. Our Sisters will be marching along side the float. We would like you to come join us dressed in red jackets or any patriotic colors. The float will be honoring the WWII Veterans. If you can help work, or march, please call me.
The Auxiliary was asked to help prepare and serve the food at the luncheon on May 29th for the World War II Veterans Memorial Dedication. It will be a Soup & Sandwich luncheon. The local celebration will start that morning with a Prayer and “Continental” breakfast at the American Legion Post 12. If you can help, call me. Thanks!
