Welcome

Well, summer is fully here and we begin a new year for Post membership and activities. The new Department Officers have been installed, and have assumed their duties. Dan Long is now the Commander of the Department of Ohio. Congratulations to Dan and his officers. May their year be productive and rewarding?

Membership is the name of the game. The Post Honor Guard has been sending off our deceased comrades at an alarming pace. We are not replacing those as fast as they are leaving. Please contact those you know who may be eligible for membership and also any who may have been a member of the VFW and dropped out. Applications are available in the Canteen. If everyone would sign up just one person, we would double our membership. Why not work at it? Martin Blaine, Cmdr

Picnic

The Post Annual Family Picnic will be held Sunday August 13, 2000, Noon 'til 6 p.m. You must fill out the registration slip and return it to the Post by August 5th. Please check with any of the officers if you would like to volunteer some time at the picnic. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Life Members Steak Fry

Just a reminder to the notice on the reverse that the 1st Steak Fry will be July 22 from 1 to 4:PM. The hours were slightly changed because of a District 9 C of A meeting that the officers have to attend. The 2nd Steak Fry will be Sept 9,'00. Watch for the reservation slip in the Aug N/Letter. FTW

Reminder

Only one meeting per month during the summer; 3rd Monday in July and Sept; 1st Monday in August. Take part in the Post activities and attend the Post meetings. You can't get all the information at the Canteen.

Council of Administration

Officers will be attending the Council of Administration meeting and Dan Long's Home- coming July 14th thru 16th, 2000 at the Radisson Hotel, Cincinnati. Chairmen will go over the VFW Programs for the coming year.

Ladies Auxiliary News

Lorraine Cragin - President

I would like to thank all the officers and chairman for volunteering their time to the Veterans for this New Year (2000-2001) and for the support they will be giving to me to make this a good year for our Veterans and Post 1079. If at any time you have a complaint, if you would just write it down on paper, sign your name, and I will bring it up to the Officers; then we can discuss it on the floor at our meeting. If at any time I can be of any help to my chairman, please let me know and I will do whatever I can to help you.

Remember, the months of June, July, august & slept, there will be only one meeting in each of these months, the 3rd Tuesday, July & Sept; and the 1st Tuesday in august at 8 p.m. in the post hall. Please come and join us as we do our volunteering for our veterans.

Our Cancer Pins were picked up at the June Convention and are now on sale. Ruth Conrad is our Cancer Chairman. If you would like to purchase any of these outside of the Post Canteen, please call Ruth.

Remember

Our ATTENDANCE DINNER is July 11th at the HOMETOWN BUFFET, 5:30 PM. All the members of the Ladies Auxiliary are welcome to join us. So come and enjoy an evening of fun and good food. If you plan to go, please call Marg Shaffstall. She is in charge of this dinner and needs to know how many plans on going so she can make the reservations. Everyone pays for their own dinner.

Ohio Caravan To The National Home

First weekend in August. Any questions, call Shirley Wolfe. Everyone should visit the home at least once to see how the children of our Veterans live.

Post Picnic will be the 2nd Sunday of August. We will have a Bake Sale supporting PAC. Please bring some goodies to sell. If you have any questions on this, call Nelta Kerley.

Bus Tour

Don't forget our July 29th tour to Marblehead, OH. Dinner at Mon Ami Restaurant, Shopping, Richmond Art Gallery and the Lighthouse. Contact Doris Atkins at if you are interested.
