A Little History
July 2nd is the anniversary of the "Bugle Call, Taps". Composed during the Civil War it was used for memorial services at military funerals, to put out lights , and to retire the Flag at the end of the day. More and more today you hear the tone of the bugle as the last tribute is given to a deceased Veteran. The WW2 ranks are thinning and fading into history along with those from the Korean War.
Even the Vietnam Vets, from the Baby Boomers, are getting well past middle age. And in Congress few of its members have been in the military which means less appropriations for Veterans health and benefits. They would rather have us fade into history and waste the money on their special PORK projects, thus ensuring their longevity in feeding at the public trough. When it's time to vote, make sure you cast your ballot for those on the side of the Veterans.
Can You Belive!
In case you missed this note in the paper, the company that was awarded the $56 million to build the WW2 memorial on the National Mall is owned by a German company that acknowledges use of forced laborers, POWs and concentration camp victims during WW2. Doesn't say much for the committee's that made this decision. Nuff said...

Ladies Auxiliary News
Wilma Zech -President
To our commander: our Auxiliary gives you our complete support. We will work together for a good year. As president I do not expect to do this job alone. I do not expect my chairman to do their job alone. A job done by one is not fun. Done by more shorten the chore. We have moved to have only one meeting a month. It will be the first Tuesday after the first Monday of each month. Except July, we have a pre planned attendance dinner on July 10th, 2:30 sharp. A posted schedule will be in our auxiliary office window. I expect each and every one of you to be active.
Volunteer in the VFW Auxiliary name, and turn in your hours. Write our legislators urging them to support our Veterans and you, their family. Contribute for a poppy plate when ask. Support our chairman in their activities. We need to teach Americanism to our youth. Afraid we will put you to work if you come to a meeting? The worst thing would be refreshment for the next meeting. You just might win our 50/50 we have at each meeting, or a life membership to National Home. Life membership is rumored to go up again think about going life, but if you do, don't forget you need to pay your Auxiliary obligations. A $5.00 donation takes care of this, your Cancer donation of $2, your Hospital donation of $1, and your insurance. We have to send this in, whether you pay it to us or not. Thanks! We will be beginning our new programs for the year in September, and want to do well.
Congratulations to Linda Husk, newly installed District 9 president for this year. We give you our support and best wishes.
To those who are ill, please let us know, as we want to wish you well. To those who have lost a loved one, please accept our deepest condolence. To all who are celebrating a birthday, or a special anniversary, have a good one. President Wilma Zech
