First, I would like to thank all who gave of their time at our annual picnic. You did a wonderful job, and as usual, it was a great success. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!!!

We have a busy month ahead so please read about the dates and sign up deadlines. First, we need to get more new members because we are losing by death a lot of members. The Post will celebrate its 76th Anniversary, Monday, October 9th at 6:30 p.m. with a Dinner honoring the veterans of the Korean War during it's 50th Anniversary. If you served during this period, we'd like to have you take part in this occasion. See the reservation slip below.

Elyria Council of Veterans

Elyria Council of Veterans installation of Officers, Wednesday, September 20, at the Amvets Post 32, 5:30 pm. Steak fry tureen, bring a covered dish. Cost $5.00 per person. Delegates, alternates, Past Commanders of the Elyria Council of Veterans, and spouses are invited.

Annual Membership Dues( Early Bird Dinners)

The Department of Ohio VFW decided on the Direct Dues Program for this year. Dues notices are addressed to National, but you may pay them at the Post, if you wish. You must have the dues for the 2001 yr paid by Sept 30th to be eligible for the "Early Bird" dinner Oct. 14th or Nov. 4th. Sign-up sheets for these dinners will be in Canteen Sept 25 thru Oct 7th. All Life Members are eligible automatically. So why not become a LIFER? Frank West

Ladies Auxiliary News

Thanks to everyone that has made the effort to pay their membership dues for the new year of (2001). If you haven't paid your dues, please do so now. If you pay early, you will be entitled to attend the early bird dinner that will be coming up soon. Please send your dues to VFW Post 1079, Ladies Auxiliary; 500 South Abbe Road, Elyria, OH 44035; or to our Treasurer, Catherine Eckhart.

Our annual picnic on the 13th of August was great, with the sun shining, a great band, (Little Rock), and a big turnout. I wish to thank all the Auxiliary and Post members for volunteering their time in making this a great day for our Post and all the Veterans and members that belong.

A great big Thank You to all the Auxiliary members that baked goodies for our bake sale. We profited $145.90; this will go to the VFW-PAC, which supports those members of Congress who support our nations Veterans.

September 19, 2000 Pot Luck Tureen Dinner, 6:30 p.m. Bring casserole, salads, veggies & etc. White Elephant Auction follows dinner. Please wrap gifts; sales will benefit our Cancer Funds. Auctioneer will be our own Past Department President, Wilma Zech. 8 p.m. Business meeting and Inspection. Our District Officers will be our guests that evening. So ladies, please try to attend.

September 28, 2000 Our annual Card Party to benefit our Cancer Funds. This will be on a Thursday. Lunch will be served at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Donations $5.00. Special Raffles and Door Prizes to all. Open to the Public. Plan to attend and bring your friends. If you can't come, we do accept donations. Please mail donations to our cancer chairman, Ruth Conrad in care of the Post, 500 S Abbe, Elyria.
