Ponderings by the Commander:

My thanks to Robert Burdick and all the volunteers who donated their time and energy to make our picnic a huge success, "Thank You."

Scout Troup 107 honored its first Eagle Scout, Charles L Huddleston, on August 7th with a ceremony & dinner in the Post Pavilion.  Congratulation Charles,  and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

This year the National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, MI had the largest caravan attendance it ever had.  I enjoyed the program.

Only one Post Meeting in Sept (3rd Monday, 15th). Meetings in October will revert to regular schedule, 1st & 3rd Mondays, Oct 6th & 20th.  I wish more of our members would join us and become active.

Labor Day, September 1, is coming up and the children will be going back to school.  Be alert!  Holiday hours for the Canteen will be posted on the blackboard.

Marty Blaine is our Clambake chairman.  Tickets for the September 27th event will be available in the Canteen at $19.00 each.  This is a catered function and will begin at 12 noon.

Founders Day is also on September 27th.  We will need members to attend the Ceremony in Columbus.

Don't forget September 7th also.  This is the District 9 meeting at Norwalk Post 2743.  Registration begins at Noon for the 1:00 p.m. meeting. A Service Officers' school of instruction will convene at 10:00 a.m.

September 19th is National POW/MIA Recognition Day.  We can't forget!

The Post will celebrate its 80th Anniversary, Thursday, October 9th, (CHARTERED IN 1923) and the Auxiliary its 75th Anniversary.  Plans are to have one joint ceremony on October 9th with a catered dinner.  To help defray the expense, tickets will be available in the Canteen for $5.00 each.  We are planning a nice program.  Don't miss it.

Norwalk Post 2743 will host the 9th District Military Ball on October 11th.  Enjoy the evening with a nice dinner and program.   For more information and tickets see a Post officer..

And last, the Halloween Costume Party on October 31st in the Canteen.  Cash prizes will be awarded only to 1079 members in costume. Join us for a fun evening. God Bless,  Steve

NOTE

NAMING OUR POST, contd
Tom Mihalis was elected Post Commander for the 1934-35 and the 1946-47 membership years.  He was also commander of VFW District 9 and of the Disabled American Veterans organization.  Tom became a Life Member of the Post on Jan 1, 1962 w/card #17851. He served as Post Hospital Chairman for many years.  Tom, along with his wife, Velva, and two of their friends, George & Darlene Lanning, donated their time twice a month to the hospitalized vets for the VFW & the DAV.  At Brecksville they treated the patients to Bingo, Ice Cream and dozens of Cookies that Velva made.

No money was ever accepted for gas or baking expenses during their many years of volunteering this service.  Post 1079 provided the Bingo prizes. To be contd..  Magadalene Elek, President
