September 2004 Newsletter

Ponderings by the Commander:

Our annual Picnic was a huge success & I hope we continue to have it on a Sunday in the future..

I wish to thank all the Auxiliary & Post members for volunteering their time, and everyone for working together to make it successful.  Special thanks to my Picnic chairman, Robert Burdick & his team leaders.  Kudos are also in order for the three auxiliary ladies,  Rosalie, Marie and Vivian, who worked two days in the kitchen chopping onions, preparing condiments, etc.

Keith Harmon, a Vietnam veteran who served as a door gunner on a Huey helicopter, was elected State Commander of Ohio at the VFW convention in Dayton.  The Post supports Keith as our Department Commander.

The Post & Auxiliary officers who attended the VFW National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids, MI, Aug 6th & 7th , received a huge surprise.  They were all called on stage and recognized for the contributions Post 1079 has been donating to the Home,  YOUR INSTANT BINGO DOLLARS AT WORK!  Play to DONATE...play to WIN, and enjoy the game.

Annual Clam Bake will be held Sunday, October 3rd.. Tickets for the event will be available in the Canteen sometime this month.

LIFE MEMBER STEAK FRY is back again this year,  scheduled for Saturday, Oct 16th., 1:PM to 4:PM.  Because of INCREASED COSTS  and LOWERED INCOME there will be a $5.00 DONATION  to help with a portion of this expense.  Also, because of our LIQUOR & GAMBLING licenses, the days of the (Open Bar) are GONE.  Tickets for refreshments will be available at a separate table. Even with this small charge you’re still getting a bargain, and DESSERT TOO!  We hope the necessity for this format change will be understood by the members and not detract from the fun & comradeship of the occasion.

Attendance slip is on the back of this newsletter and must be returned, with donation, by Oct 6th.  Please make sure your name is printed along with your Life Membership Number for positive ID.  Remember, NO GUESTS;   we just don’t have the room.
God Bless, Steve

NOTE
Please report deceased members to the Post and those ill & in the hospital to the Chaplain, Robert Burdick.

CANTEEN NEWS
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves at our annual Picnic.  It was a beautiful day and the food was great,  and so was the music.  A great big Thank You goes out to my helpers, Taz, Chrissy & Ruth.  A job well done to my volunteer Bartenders, Cody, Leroy, Chrissy, Mary, Kendall, Janet, Pete, Randy, Ron & Charlie.  I don’t know who had more fun, the members or my volunteers.  It was the first year the Post bartenders could attend the picnic and not have to work.  Bob Burdick did a great job on this year’s Picnic and as always, Rosalie did the same.  Tell them when you see them in the Post.

Join us Friday eve, Sept 24th for our end of Summer party.  Slushie Drinks, Appetizers available.  Wear your Beach attire.
‘til October,  Tina
